Fit Schools

Your school may have daily PE and recess that encourage all students to play, develop cardio, strength, agility, balance and speed skills they can take to both life and sport. If your school has a stellar program, we applaud you! But, the national picture is bleak. At the same time that childhood obesity has reached epidemic levels -- doubling in the last 30 years -- physical education classes are vanishing. Children are learning about Diabetes II because now 25-30 of every 100 children have it - and many are not aware that they do.

The incidence of overweight adults and children has grown alarmingly in the past decade, prompting a $50 million MacArthur Foundation study on the $12 billion in junk food ads aimed at kids annually.   "Get Outta My Face" is a grass-roots effort that encourages kids themselves to enlist strategies to curb the epidemic.  According to the Centers for Disease Control, 10 years ago, 42 percent of high school students attended daily P. E. class -- today it's only 25 percent. Overweight children are 70 percent more likely to become overweight adults, and at risk for a variety of life threatening diseases. "Overweight and obesity may soon cause as much preventable disease and death as cigarette smoking," Satcher said. Obesity and its resulting problems will cost more than $4 trillion for our society in the year 2015.

As schools are pressured to improve students' academic performance, P. E. often gets squeezed out of the curriculum. NCLB guidelines seem to reinforce that -

        1.  MORE TEST PREP TIME WILL INCREASE TEST SCORES
        2.  MORE FOCUS ON "ACADEMICS' WILL HELP ALL STUDENTS ACHIEVE

There is no need to make fitness/daily activity or high academic achievement an either/or decision. Once the realization that there is a powerful mind-body connection between fit students and higher achievement, decisions are easier to make. Click here for more info on the Research Findings

Is there a highly effective but low cost solution that will provide students in grades 3-12 with key, lifelong fitness skills?

ExerLearning  in-class program tied with "Generation FIT" can provide much-needed fitness and academic success in just 10-15 minutes per day. We did an exhaustive exploration of more than 200 research studies (see RESEARCH FINDINGS). Then we spent much of the 2004-2005 school year determining if we could replicate those amazing results with our program. What happened was beyond our wildest expectation. Our Generation FIT training DVD tells the complete story. A summary can be found on the Vern Patrick Beta Test Study area of this website.

Generation FIT based on ExerLearning principles is a solution for your school - just let us know your challenges, goals and ideas. We're your solution partner. Share Your School’s Fitness Stories and Ideas! You might be this month’s winner of dance video game and two Ignition mats.

Heather Renz - wins Microsoft Innovative Teacher Award!
The lead teacher in the Generation-FIT program, Heather from Vern Patrick Elementary, was selected as just one of 12 teachers from across the United States to participate in the Microsoft Worldwide Innovative Teachers Forum. This seminar, which will take place in Redmond, WA in July will bring teachers from all over the globe. India, Australia, Europe, Japan, South America and more will be represented.

Part of the learning and sharing will be the first Worldwide Innovative Teachers Forum and Awards Banquet to honor outstanding educators who continue to search for new and better ways to improve student learning through the integration of technology.

We are extremely proud that Heather was selected in such a competitive venue. It will be the first global exposure that Generation-FIT will have. Heather will share the powerful results of the year-long experience her 4th graders had using a dance video game as a fitness and brain-training solution. Her student gained enormous growth in eye-tracking and patterning, collaborative and leadership skills, appreciation of varied aptitudes and learning styles all while becoming more fit than they had ever been.

That includes Heather herself. NO diet had ever provided her with the dramatic weight-loss she enjoyed during her first 5 months playing the dance video game for exercise. Losing 35 pounds while gaining more energy and focus is a success story in itself.
